Carlene Kirvan has a diverse career background having worked in various roles within industries that have included trade and retail, financial institutions, performing arts, and education. Her most recent role was as an Employability Specialist and Careers Advisor in a Careers and Employability Services team at UQ. In that role, Carlene proactively enriched the student experience and facilitated skill development and work-readiness through: individual and group consultations; creating resources; tailoring and delivering workshops and programs; recruiting and engaging students in small project opportunities with real-life impacts; and liaising with industry specialists and not-for-profit organisations. Carlene’s efforts were recognised with those in her team in a national award for contributions to Learning and Teaching. In other roles, Carlene has worked in an Education Program for Unemployed Youth, and in Education Assessment (English).
