Advanced Careers Counselling

Introduction

The Advanced Careers Counselling  workshop is ideal for those wanting to develop or hone the more advanced careers counselling skills needed to work with the long term unemployed, disengaged youth, people facing retrenchment, redundancy and youth in transition.

Participants undertake highly relevant professional reading and related activities in preparation for an intensive 2 day workshop.

The Australian Sandards for Career Development Practitioners identifies the need for professional practitioners to have all the components of the competency 6.3.3 Advanced communication skills which includes the Specialisation - counselling skills. As stated in the standards "Counselling is  fundamental to the work of many career development practitioners".

When counselling, practitioners should provide a process that is aligned with the needs of the individual. Supporting a client through the career guidance process is not simply providing employment or course information. It requires the examination of the clients life, learning and work in context of their lifelong career development.
